Over the Fence – 3rd February 2010

Regardless of what one thinks of the actions of Mr Peter Spencer spending a large amount of time up a pole, it certainly has come to highlight that the disregard that most politicians have for the plight of agriculture.
The comments attributed to the NSW Lands Minister and the Federal Ministers, can only show how much the politicians want to court the green vote for their own political purposes. In this land where we purchase our rural property with dreams of lifestyle and a decent economical way of living, it’s a shame that in today’s environment, it is hard enough anyway without government restrictions or political decisions.
One grazier was told that he would have a caveat put on his land to make him clear hundreds of hectares of woody weeds by hand, using herbicides that would not damage or kill “native vegetation”. Senseless, impractical decisions made by bureaucrats like this, certainly highlight how far away their thinking is from reality. Maybe we need a 44 degree day and throw them a brush hook and a bottle of roundup and let them set into this 250 acres of woody weeds !!!!
