Over the Fence – October 2008

Looks like the wrangle over the Rural Lands Protection Boards is starting to heat up with a total rejection by farmers organizations for the amalgamation of the existing 47 boards down to 14 “Super” boards. One feels that with the recent goings on in State Parliament, there is something more sinister behind this deal. Especially when they are prepared to throw $3 Million at it, to make it happen, of money they haven’t got . My question is why do we see these on going restrictions and down sizing being placed on our rural industry, which at this time needs only our support.

There are enough natural restrictions such as drought, higher running costs, reduced product price and unfortunately an ever shrinking number of young farmers who are going to be the future of this industry. I get the sneaking suspicion that not only are the people of NSW being treated like idiots, but also the agricultural sector in particular is being squeezed for some unknown reason by the powers in Sydney.
